Jerald Acoba, a Filipino-American Lakers fan wins $95,000 jackpot after hitting halfcourt shot betweent the third and fourth quarters of the Los Angeles Lakers' 116-102 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night at the Staples Center
The 30-year-old fan from Tulare, California just had the best time of his life because he did not only won cash worth $95,000 but he also get to celebrate his victory with his favorite basketball team.
The Pinoy Lakers fan became the fifth winner of the Lakers' MGM Big Shot Jackpot, an event that began during the 2006-07 NBA season. He is the second winner for this season after Travis Milne of Santa Maria, California made the halfcourt shot and won $35,000 in November. The jackpot prize grew every missed shot after the winning hit of Milne.
Acoba posted a photo on his Instagram account with the huge Big Shot Jackpot cheque. He wrote in the caption:
He will use the money to buy his mother a car. He said in a report by NBA.com:
“She’s always been there for me when I need her. She’s always there to help me out. It’s my turn to repay the favor to her.”
Lakers guard D'Angelo Russell was more than happy about Acoba's win. He stated after the game:
“It’s good to see a lot of fans keeping that ‘ice in the veins’ going. I appreciate everybody for that.
That’s a lot of money, man. Take care of it.”
